The following information has been researched by and is courtesy of Geoff Sullivan:
Francis Herbert Yates was born in 1887 at Great Bar, Staffordshire. Arthur Bennion Yates was born in 1893 at Great Bar, Staffordshire. They were
nephews of Lady Holden. Their father Francis Henry Yates was the son of Mr Francis Henry Yates a well known farmer at Great Barr. His sister, Hellen S. Yates was the second wife of Sir Edward Thomas Holden. (married 1902 after then death of his first wife)

Arthur and Francis Yates, of The Moors, must have enlisted together in the 15th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, having service numbers 117
and 116 respectively. A Walter G. Yates, service number 115, also served in the same battalion and survived the war – he may have been a relative of the Yates brothers.

The 15th Royal Warwickshire Regiment (2nd Birmingham Battalion) was one of three Battalions of the new army formed at Birmingham in September 1914 by the Lord Mayor and a local committee.

In 1901 the Yates family of farmers were living at Black Brook Farm, Weeford, Staffordshire. There were 5 sons and 1 daughter. In 1911 they were living at Fairfiled Mount, Walsall, Staffordshire. Some time later they relocated to The Moors, Upton Warren. By the time the Arras Memorial was unveiled ln July 1932, their address was Rising Bridge House, Upton Warren.

Francis Herbert Yates was killed in action at Angle Wood, France on 3rd September 1916. He has no known grave, Francis is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial which holds the names of over 72,000 officers and men of The United Kingdom and South Africa, most of whom died in The Battle of The Somme, 1st July 1916 to November 1916. He is listed in DeRuvigny’s Roll of Honour.

Arthur Bennion Yates was killed in action at Fresnoy Wood, France on 9th May 1917. Arthur has no known grave and is commemorated on The Arras Memorial, which holds the names of almost 35,000 men, many of these died in The Arras offensive, April-May 1917.
