Harold Wood enlisted in the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry and joined the 6th (Service) Battalion in the 20th (Light) Division. They moved to France in June 1915 and were in quiet locations for the rest of that year until planning for the 1916 Battle of the Somme started. They were ordered to move from Flanders to the Somme in June but just before the move south Private Harold Wood was wounded.
