Bromsgrove Droitwich and Redditch Messenger, 21st August 1915:
Private J Willis, 6th Dorsets, son of Mr John Willis, Sagebury Terrace, Stoke Works, died on August 5th from the effect of a shrapnel wound received the previous day in Flanders. Private Willis, who was about 45 years of age and worked at Selly Oak, enlisted last September but did not go to France until last month.  He had only been in the trenches about twelve hours when he received his fatal injuries.  A letter from his Company Officer testifies to the deceased’s pluck and to his popularity with his comrades.  The deceased was a single man.
