Owen Williams was born on 29th December 1892. He entered II as a Day Scholar at King Edward IV2 Grammar School on 2nd May 1906. At the time of his admission to the school his father is recorded as J. Williams, Manager Brickworks, Witley Lodge, Halesowen. Owen had previously been educated for two terms at the City of London School and then Nelson House Preparatory School, Clapham. He left King Edward VI Grammar School from Form V on 27th July 1909 to take employment as a Bank Clerk.
From King Edward VI Grammar School war record booklet:
2nd Lieutenant, 4th Battalion Welsh Regiment. Killed in action at Gaza, Palestine 19th April 1917.
Owen Williams Medal Roll Card records his previous ranks of Private and Corporal, service numbers 2658 and 325432 with the Worcestershire Yeomanry Corps of Hussars. There is no record of him serving with the Welsh Regiment on the medal index card or the Medal and Award Rolls. He entered the theatre of war in Egypt on 24th April 1915 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant with the Worcestershire Regiment on 13th March 1917. He was awarded the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the 1915 Star.
