Taken from the National Roll of the Great War
Edward Whitmore was in the Navy when war broke out and served in HMS Suxifrage.  He took part in the naval engagements in the Dardanelles, but in October 1915 he was invalided home and engaged on mine-laying in the North Sea, particularly in the vicinity of Zeebrugge.  He was discharged in March 1919 and holds the 1914/15 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals.
