Herbert Harry White was born in January 1880 in Badsey, the youngest of three sons of Richard and Elizabeth Mason. Shortly after his birth his mother died and he was reared by his paternal aunt Elizabeth and her husband Enoch White in Childswickham (Elizabeth was Harry’s father’s sister). At some stage after 1891 he changed his surname to White. He left a wife and two children Eve and Alfred. He had two older brothers Ernest and Charles.

Herbert White has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
