Further Information About WEBB Archibald William
A photograph of Private A. Webb of Blockley can be found in Berrow’s Worcester Journal Supplement, Saturday 8th June 1918, available at Worcestershire Archives.
The following information is courtesy of the researcher of the casualties on the Blockley War Memorials:
Archibald Webb was born on 5th August 1897 and baptised in Blockley Church on 29th August 1897. He was the son of a baker. Archibald was at home with his family until at least 1911, when he was working for his father as a baker. Archibald’s service records have not survived but other sources reveal that he served with the 7th Battalion of the Queen’s (Royal West Surrey Regiment), presumably on conscription in 1916. The 7th was formed in 1914 and was serving in France when Archibald joined the battalion in the field.
From the medals card and regimental medals roll:
Archibald William Webb, 3/4 Battalion The Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment, 7 Battalion Royal West Surrey Regiment, Private, G/60586, awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
From Soldiers’ Effects:
Archibald William Webb, 7 Battalion Royal West Surrey Regt, Private, 60586, 23/3/18 presumed died in service, £13 5s 2d including War Gratuity of £5 to father William
