Further Information About WATSON Harold

Appears on the Royal Navy casualties list for Worcestershire.

Harold Watson was killed during an air raid on the 26th August 1940 when the Luftwaffe dropped 78 bombs on Fort Cumberland, Eastney.  The fort, situated at the South-Easternmost point of Portsea Island, was being used at the time as an overflow base for the Royal Marines due to the main barracks a mile to the West being full.  One of the bombs hit a perimeter room in the fort.  A memorial was erected to those who lost their lives in the raid on the spot where they died, this has since been moved to the Royal Marines Barracks.

A letter from J. Cathcart Davies, Cropthorne Vicarage, dated 13th May 1950 can be found within war records held at Worcester County Record Office requesting that H. Watson, Marine, Royal Navy, be added to the county roll of honour.
