The 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment was engaged in the Battle of the Aisne, which opened on the 27th May 1918. This was part of the third phase of the German Spring Offensive, ‘Operation Blucher’, which was launched against the French Army on the River Aisne. After an intensive artillery bombardment 41 German divisions advanced on a front held by 16 Allied divisions. The defenders were overrun and the Germans advanced thirteen miles on the first day. On the 6th June, following many successful Allied counter-attacks, the German advance halted on the Marne, much as the “Michael” and “Georgette” German offensives had in March and April of that year.

Frank Walters has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on the Worcestershire Regiment Panel on Soissons Memorial.
