Further Information About WALLACE Albert

Albert Wallace was born in Bromsgrove in 1898.  He was the son of Henry and Ellen Wallace who lived at Worcester Street.  In 1901 Henry was a farm labourer but by 1911 he is listed as a warehouseman.  Albert was the 7th of 14 children.  The eldest was Henry John, followed by Robert, a clothes fitter in a clothing factory, William and George, house painters, Nellie, who was a button raiser in a clothing factory, then Beatrice, Albert, Ethel, Arthur, Percy, Frank, Leslie, Sidney and Ruby.

Albert became a Private in the 10th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, arriving in France on 19th July, 1915. He was killed in action on 4th July, 1916 at the age of 18 and so officially should not have been posted overseas, as soldiers were supposed to be at least 19 before going abroad.  Did he lie about his age??

Albert Wallace has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Thiepval Memorial.
