On 17th February 1945 HMS Blubell searching for U-Boats ahead of Convoy RA-64. At 17.30 hours approximately 30 miles east-northeast of Kildin Island in the Barents Sea, she was hit by a German Navy Acoustic Torpedo fired from U-711. The torpedo struck the stern of the ship detonating her depth charges. The ship sank in less than 30 seconds and the few men who survived the attack succumbed to the ice cold waters very quickly.
