William Waldron was born in Worcester in 1888, the son of William and Ellen Stone (nee Jones) who had married in 1887. William was the eldest of the couple’s 7 children, at least 5 of whom were boys. On the 1911 census William is employed as a clerk for a moneylender while his father works as a driller at the railway signal works. William enlisted as a private in the Rifle Brigade sometime during 1916. He was killed in action on the Somme on 5th March 1917.
