Further Information About WALDEN William Richard
William Walden was born in Blockley on 25th October 1899, the son of a night-watchman who was living and working on the nearby Northwick Park estate, at the time in the possession of the Spencer-Churchill family. William was baptised in the village church on 25th February 1900 and he was at home with his family in 1901 and 1911. His personal military documents have not survived but other sources reveal he enlisted at Worcester on an unknown date and it is very probable that he was under-age as soldiers were not sent to fight overseas until they reached the age of 19. He served as a Private with the 8th Battalion of the Royal Berkshire Regiment and lost his life in action in France in 1918.
