Known as “Oppy” Voorburgh at school, he was apparently a big chap and achieved notoriety for landing a punch on a rather unpopular teacher of French called Brown. For this he was not expelled, as would be expected, but received ‘six of the best’ in front of the assembled school from Headmaster, Mr Wallin. Of Dutch origin he was a boarder at the school. I have yet to find any official records of his service and death. It is said that Oppy Voorburgh lost his life while fighting for the ‘other side’!

On the 1911 census Albert Peter Voorburgh, age 21, born in Holland, was a boarder in the household of Eliza Bloor, widow, at 23 Francis Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham. He gave his occupation as a Mechanical Student.
