On the night of the 26th November 1943 Joseph Vennes was the air bomber on a training flight on a Wellington bomber. Whilst the aircraft was circling Stratford aerodrome preparatory to landing the starboard engine failed causing the pilot, Joseph Dubord, to lose control of the aircraft which subsequently crashed killing 4 of the 5 crew members. Only the rear gunner, Sergeant T.V. Gagnon survived the crash.
Sergeant Jean Jacques Vennes (as written in the register) age 21, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force, died at Wellesbourne on 25th November 1943 (as recorded in the register) and was buried in unconsecrated ground in Pershore Cemetery on 29th November 1943. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend W.V. McCarthy.
