Harry Tyler attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1911 to 1912. The only son of Harry and Annie Tyler, he married Florence Staples and they had two sons, Gordon born in 1923 and Bryan born in 1925. During the last war he served in a Transport Corps. He took over as the proprietor of the Royal Mail Garage in Farrier Street, Worcester after the death of his father in 1938, and was also a member of Worcester Rifle Club. He enlisted into a special unit of the R.A.O.C. shortly before the outbreak of World War 2. In January 1940 he travelled to Lille in France with his Army Field Workshop, where he was stationed before taking part in the advance into Belgium and the subsequent evacuation from Dunkirk.

The death of Squadron Quarter Master Sergeant (SQMS) H.S. Tyler is reported on the front page of the Worcester Evening News & Times, Monday 9th September 1940. Details of his funeral and further personal details are reported on page 5 of the Evening News & Times, Wednesday 11th September 1940 and on the front page of Berrow’s Worcester Journal, Saturday 14th September 1940. Harry Stanley Tyler, occupation: soldier, resident Royal Mail Garage, Farrier Street, Worcester, died in Lyndhurst, Hants. He was buried in consecrated ground in Astwood Cemetery on 10th September 1940, aged 42 years. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend H.W. Bathurst.
