Further Information About TURVEY Frank
Frank was born in Blockley in 1884. In 1891 his father was a roadman and quarreyman and in 1901 a bricklayer. Frank was one of ten children of which seven were still living in 1911. He was at home until probably 1906, working in 1901 as a bricklayer. In 1906 he married Edith Sarah J. Meadows, the marriage registered at Evesham. It is likely that they returned to live in Blockley, as the births of the four children born between 1907 and 1913 were registered at Shipston.
Frank’s personal documentation from WW1 has not survived but there is other material. He must have been a volunteer, since he was posted to Gallipoli in mid-1915, before conscription was introduced; his service number is consistent with enlistment in 1914. His death came only a matter of weeks after his arrival in Gallipoli. His family were still in Blockley after the war.
