TURNER Charles Thomas

The inscription on the memorial reads:
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
PTE. C. TURNER
R.A.M.C. 2ND LONDON T.F.
WHO WAS WOUNDED AT YPRES APRIL 4TH
AND DIED AT BOULOGNE APRIL 21ST 1915.
HE WAS THE BELOVED AND ONLY CHILD OF
HENRY AND MARGARET TURNER, OF THIS PARISH
LORD TEACH US FROM OUR HEARTS TO SAY
“THY WILL BE DONE.”

Charles Turner, resident 5 Abbey Terrace, Evesham, enlisted as a Private in the 2nd London Field Ambulance on 6th August 1914. He remained on home service until 15th January 1915 when he embarked on S.S. “Tintiretto” at Southampton as part of the British Expeditionary Force, disembarking Le Havre, France on 16th January 1915. He was admitted to hospital on 8th April 1915 and died at 12 midnight on 20th April 1915 in No 11 General Hospital, Boulogne from a gunshot wound to the head.

His mother, Margaret, acknowledged receipt of his medals, writing on the back of the form:
‘We shall prize the “Star” very much, he was our only child, a good and brave lad, God alone knows my grief.”
