Roy Tranter enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment on the 6th January 1915 at Worcester. On his attestation form he gave his address as Richmond Street, Halesowen, his age as 19 years and his occupation as a crane driver. His next of kin was his brother, Thomas Tranter, of the same address. He was posted overseas on the 15th August 1915, joining the Expeditionary Force in the Dardanelles on the 27th August 1915.

Roy Tranter was discharged from the army on the 20th July 1916 as no longer physically fit for war service due to neurasthenia following enteric fever.

He was awarded the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the 1915 Star. There is no record of Roy Tranter on the Commonwealth War Graves or Soldiers Died in the Great War databases but his death aged 21 is registered in the September Quarter 1917 under the Stourbridge Registration District. Pension records hold details of his brother Thomas, 3 Richmond Street, Halesowen but no information with regard to any pension being paid to him.
