Harold Tolley is believed to have been fostered and he lived in the Broomhall area.  He attended Lindridge School and later joined the Merchant Navy.

S.S. Mabitron was a British cargo steamer built in 1920.  She was torpedoed without warning at 03.25am on 25th September 1940 by U-32, 500 miles west of Ireland, and sunk with the loss of 12 men from her crew of 37.

Harold Tolley has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Tower Hill Memorial.
