Further Information About TINDAL Arthur Henry Uhthoff
Arthur Tindal was born on the 9th March 1876 in Worcestershire, England, son of Rev. Henry Tindal (1820-1912) and Emma Haydock Tindal (nee Hill, 1825-1900). Siblings: Caroline Edith Tindal, 1856-1926; Louis William Tindal, 1862-1901.
Captain Tindal died at Kheis Drift on the 29th May 1900 from wounds received on the 27th May during a battle with a Boer force who had camped there at the end of May. This force was a threat to the railway in the area, to the British it was imperative to eliminate the Boers ability to fight. Loses on The British side were 9 killed and 18 wounded.
I have not found a list of personnel killed and wounded. Capt. Tindal’s unit, The Welsh Regiment had one battalion of militia attached to this force along with the Gloucestershire Regt, Nesbitt’s Horse and a company of mounted infantry along with the 44th Battery of Royal Field Artillery.
