THOULD George

George Thould was born at Evesham in 1889. Prior to enlisting at Birmingham he was employed as a tram car conductor.

Evesham Journal and Four Shires Advertiser, 25th November 1916:
Mrs Brotherton of 20, Mill Bank, Evesham, has received the following letter informing her of the death in France of her brother, Private George Thould, of the Anti-Aircraft Section. The letter is written by the Lieutenant of her brother’s company and runs:
“It is with extreme regret that it is my duty to let you know that your brother, George Thould, was wounded by an enemy shell at about 1.30 p.m on Thursday, the 9th inst., and although everything was done for him he passed away at about 6.00 in the evening of the same day. I saw him just before he was taken into hospital and I am glad to be able to tell you that he was not in any very great pain. He was one of the lads I brought out and therefore I have known him for quite a considerable time and I shall miss him. He was a good soldier, always did his best and I can ill afford to lose such as he. I sincerely sympathise with you in your loss and trust that you will find great consolation in the fact that he died doing his duty.”
Private Thould joined the army eighteen months ago and has been in France since last August. Before joining the army he was a tram car conductor in Birmingham. Prior to that he resided in Evesham at the home of his sister, Mrs Brotherton.
