EVESHAM SOLDIER DIES OF WOUNDS
Official news has been received that Pte. George Stubbington, of the Worcesters, was wounded in France on March 5, and died three days later.  Pte. Stubbington, who was nineteen years of age last November, was the son of Pte. George Stubbington, of Hampton, who was formerly in the employ of Messrs. Roberts Bros., but who is now in the Army.  The son used to work at Messrs. W. H. Smith and Son’s until he joined the arm at the beginning of last year.  He had only been in France only about five weeks.

Evesham Journal and Four Shires Advertiser, 24th March 1917:
HOW PTE. STUBBINGTON DIED
Mrs. George Stubbington of Peewit-road, Great Hampton, has received the following letter from the sister-in-charge of the 5th Casualty Clearing Station, B.E.F., in reference to the death of her son, Pte. George Stubbington of the Worcesters, which we recorded last week: – “I very much regret to have to tell you that your son Pte. G. Stubbington, died of wounds in this hospital yesterday, March 8th.  He was very badly wounded in the body, and from the first there was not much hope of saving his life.  Everything was done for him that possibly could be by the surgeons and nurses, and I am thankful to think that he did not suffer much but passed peacefully away.  He will be buried in the cemetery attached to this hospital.”
We shall give a photograph of Pte. Stubbington next week.  The deceased, whose father is also in the army, was 19 years of age last November, and formerly worked for Messrs. H. W. Smith and Son.  He had only been in France about five weeks.

(George was the son of George Seymour and Hannah Maria Stubbington (nee Wright) who were married in 1897.)
