George Steward enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment on 20th July 1904 at Bewdley. On his attestation paper he gave his place of birth as Wribbenhall near Bewdley, his age as 18 years 3 months and his occupation as a Miner. George was 5 feet 4¼ inches tall with a fresh complexion, hazel eyes and light brown hair. During his time in the army he served at home, in Malta and Egypt. He was posted overseas to France on 11th August 1914.
