Further Information About STEUART Norman Kennedy
Mentioned in Despatches.
Norman Steuart attended Bromsgrove School from 1903 to 1909. From Sandhurst he passed into the Connaught Rangers, being gazetted in October 1910. After some years at the Curragh and Aldershot, he was seconded to Nigeria and it was not until 1916 that he obtained his wish to go to the Front. He was severely wounded on 9th September leading his company to the attack but died at Amiens. Till mid-day on 15th his recovery had been hoped for but Africa had sapped his strength and there was not sufficient resisting power. He was cheerful to the last, sending a message of comfort to his Mother and thanking all for what they had done for him. His C.O. spoke in admiration of his cheerful courage and his Brigadier put down his name for recommendation for reward in consequence of excellent service done on September 3rd when the senior officers were out of action and he led the battalion.
