Further Information About STEUART Alan John
Alan Steuart was born in 1888. He entered Gordon House, Bromsgrove School in 1903 and left in 1904. After training in Scotland he emigrated to Canada as an engineer. When war broke out he enlisted in the Canadian Army and met his death at Ypres.

Alan Steuart enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 24th September 1914 at Valcartier, Quebec, Canada. On his attestation form he gave his date of birth as 6th May 1888 in Livingstone, Scotland, his occupation as an Electrical Engineer and his next of kin as Mrs A.M. Steuart, Westwood, West Calder, Linlithgowshire. He had previous military experience with an Officers Training Corps in England. Alan was 5 feet 6 inches tall with a fair complexion, blue eyes and light coloured hair. Alan Steuart was promoted to Lance Corporal on 30th November 1914, provisional Sergeant on 18th January 1915 with this rank confirmed on 5th February 1915. He died of wounds at the 81st Field Ambulance on 30th April 1915 and was buried in a field north of Vlamertinghe Church.
