Kidderminster Times 22nd August 1914: Frank Smythe volunteered for the front.

Kidderminster Times 31st October 1914: Home from Egypt, now gone to the front.

Frank Smythe volunteered at the outbreak of war and took great interest in his training. He was the only child of Mr and Mrs Thomas Smythe, High Street, Stourport, he married Florence (nee Law) on his last furlough before leaving for the front. In his younger days Frank was articled to a firm of architects in Worcester, afterwards taking up photography. He was a great lover of the Severn and boating. There is an obelisk to his memory in Stourport (Lower Mitton) St. Michael churchyard. This also marks the grave of his father, Thomas John Smythe, died 29th January 1929.
