Further Information About SMITH William

Private/Lance Corporal 22270 Worcestershire Regiment. Attested at Worcester on the 28th April 1915, age 19, trade: Waterman. Born 1896. Next of Kin: Mother, Elizabeth Smith, Severn Stoke.

Initially he was posted to the 6th Battalion at Norton barracks, subsequently to the 3rd Battalion then back to the 5th as a Lance Corporal. He was wounded sometime in 1917 with gunshot wounds to his thigh, arm and shoulder.

William Smith first served overseas sometime after the 3rd December 1915. He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal; entitled to 2 blue overseas service chevrons and one wound stripe.
Address: Police Station, Severn Stoke. Moved to Earls Croome in 1920.
