Further Information About SMITH Sydney Owen
Sydney Smith attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1907 to 1909. He enlisted in Worcester, joining the 3rd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. On 31st July the battalion went into the trenches immediately west of the River Ancre on the Somme. Despite the heavy fighting across the river, the battalion had a fairly quiet time according to the war diary. Between 31st July and 6th August when the battalion were relieved from the trenches, 8 men lost their lives, one of whom was Sydney Smith.

Entered the Balkan theatre of war on 4th October 1915. Awarded the 1915 Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
