Second Lieutenant H. Smith 1st/1st Worcester Yeomanry, 13th Draft, Details, embarked at Southampton 20th December 1916 for service with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, disembarked at Marseilles, France on 28th December 1916. Drowned ex Ivernia 1st January 1917.

The following information has been researched and transcribed by Mark Dewdney:
At 10.12am on 1st January the Ivernia was torpedoed by the German submarine U47 fifty eight miles south-east off Cape Matapan in Greece. Within one hour the ship sank; the survivors were landed at Suda Bay in Crete. Thirty six crew members and eighty four troops were killed.
