The following information has been researched by Geoff Hill:
On the 11th February 1917, the 66th (2nd East Lancashire) Division, which included the 2nd/7th Manchester Regiment) received orders to prepare to embark for France. Entrainment began on the 25th February. On the 1st March the Division began detraining at Berguette and Thiennes and with the move being completed by 16th March the Division joined XI Corps, First Army. The 66th Division was not involved in any engagement with the Germans until the 26th June 1917. It is not, therefore, clear how, when or where Cecil Smith was wounded.
