Handel Slim was born on 15th September 1885 at Blackheath, Staffordshire. He enlisted for 12 years service with the Royal Navy on 11th March 1904. Handel was 5 feet 3¾ inches tall with brown hair, grey eyes and a fresh complexion. Commencing as a Stoker, he served on many ships before joining HMS Queen Mary on 4th September 1914.
