Further Information About SIMPSON James

James Simpson was born on 10th October 1892 in the village of Charlton Abbotts, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.  He lived in the village when he was appointed as Police Constable No 223, Worcester Constabulary on 1st November 1913.  He was single and had spent 3 years in the army, last based at Chelsea.  He was discharged from the 2nd Battalion, Grenadier Guards, Private No 14941 on 16th October 1913 but remained in the army reserve.  He was 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighed 12 stone, his chest measurement was 36 inches and he had a fresh complexion with blue eyes and brown hair.  James spent 278 days with the constabulary as a Constable 3rd Class working at Police Headquarters in Worcester until 15th December 1913 and then at Stourbridge police station from 16th December 1913 until he rejoined the Grenadier Guards on 6th August 1914.
