Bernard Ward Silk was born in 1894 in the Alcester District and baptised on 22nd July 1894 in Acocks Green, Worcestershire. His parents were William Henry Silk and Eliza Bottley Silk. On the 1911 census Bernard Silk aged 16, Clerk, lived with his parents William Henry and Eliza Botteley Silk at 98 Oakly Road, Redditch.
Birmingham Daily Post, Saturday 5th August 1916:
Mr and Mrs W. H. Silk, of Worcester Road, Redditch, have received information that their son Bernard, has been killed in action. Prior to enlisting in the army the deceased had rendered service in the Y.M.C.A. huts and before the war he had been actively interested in the Boy Scout movement.
