The birth of Albert Shepherd is registered in the September Quarter 1898 under the Stourbridge Registration District.
Albert Shepherd lived at 30 Mamble Road, Wollaston. His father was a regular soldier. Albert joined the 10th (Service) Battalion, which saw action on the Somme in 1916 and at Passchendaele in 1917. In March 1918 it faced the first German Spring offensive near Cambrai. It was an overwhelming attack which left the Worcesters facing a long retreat. Many of the wounded had to be left as prisoners of war. These included Private Albert Shepherd who died of wounds in a German camp. He is also commemorated on the St. Thomas’s Church memorial.
