William Savery attended Redditch County High School from 1927 to 1932.  He was killed instantly on the 12th July, 1944, when his unit was under continuous and heavy shelling near CAEN.

…Many of their men had left them to join the regular Forces. Some of them would not return. They paid homage that day to eight of their own number who had laid down their lives for their country and the cause of freedom, and he would specially mention Lieut. Savery, “that keen young Home Guard Officer who did much excellent work with us.”
