The following information has been researched by Andy Frisby:
James Sanders was born at Alvechurch in 1882, the youngest child and one of 5 children of William and Charlotte Sanders nee Woodward. In 1907 James married Matilda Hartles and they had 3 children: Sidney Guy Sanders born in 1907, Leonard Sanders born in 1911 and Hilda Sanders born in 1915. The family resided at Arrowfield Top, Alvechurch. In 1921 James’ widow Matilda married John Nind.
Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Advertiser, 17th November 1917:
Mrs Sanders of Arrowfield Top, Alvechurch, has been officially informed that her husband Private James Sanders of the Worcestershire Regiment has been posted as missing from 10th October last. He is the second son of Mr William Sanders. He joined the army 12 months ago and before enlisting he was employed by Messrs W and G Sanders, building and contractors of Barnt Green as a bricklayer.
James was reported as Killed in Action in the Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Advertiser of 8th December 1917.
