Killed in Holland
Guardsman Wm. George Rudge is the first Elmley Lovett soldier to be killed in action during this war. His parents, Mr and Mrs George Rudge, of Tinker’s Cottage, Elmley Lovett, have been informed that he died on October 7 in Holland.
Guardsman Rudge, aged 24, was born at Abbots Wood, near Kempsey, and educated at Cutnall Green School. Before joining the Forces he was employed by Hills’ Patent Glazing Company, West Bromwich. He served for 3½ years with the Royal Artillery before being drafted to the Guards.
In 1942 he married Mis Margaret Bratt, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Bratt, of Bromsgrove.
Mr Rudge, senior, saw service with the Worcestershire Regiment for 14½ years, also being on the reserve for four years after the last war.
