Further Information About ROSS Ronald Maynard

Ronald Ross was born in 1896. He attended Bromsgrove School from 1912 to 1914. Intending to enter Sandhurst, he at once enlisted on the outbreak of the War in the Public School Corps in the hopes of rapidly getting to the Front. Disappointed in this, he eventually obtained leave to take the Army Examination and after a short spell at the R.M.C. was gazetted to the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. His C.O. reported him as behaving with marked gallantry and coolness. He was severely wounded early in the fight, but refused to leave and continued to lead his men and make headway against counter attacks all day. Towards evening, seeing a Sergeant practically buried by a shell he hastened to dig him out and in so doing exposed himself above the parapet; he was struck by a piece of shell and killed instantly.
