Stephen Rollason attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1925 to 1929. After leaving school he attended the Victoria Institute where he gained a Higher National Certificate. He was the Cub Pack Master of the St Barnabas Rover Scouts. He worked as a draughtsman in the experimental shop at Heenan and Froude in Worcester for 8 years before enlisting in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in 1939. Stephen served for 8 months in France before being evacuated at Dunkirk.

In 1942 Stephen was in Iraq helping with the maintenance and recovery of vehicles. On the day before he died he went to bed complaining of feeling unwell having been out in the extreme heat all day. He died of heat stroke during the night and was found by his Batman the following morning. He left a wife, Kathleen, and a one year old daughter, Anne.
