Arthur Roberts was born on 29th March 1897, the son of James and Sarah Ann Roberts of Clent, Worcestershire. He entered Old Swinford Hospital on 18th June 1907 and left the school in April 1911 to go to learn gardening under the Rev. Thatcher at Clent.
