Further Information About RIMMER Joseph Henry
Appears on the Army casualties list for Worcestershire.
Joseph Rimmer enlisted in the Royal Engineers and was posted to 276 Field Company. At this stage of the war the work of a Field Company was vital for any advance. Often under fire and at great speed they kept the momentum of attack going forward. They built bridges, repaired roads, filled anti-tank ditches, and much more. The 276 Field Company provided support for the 51st (Highland) Division. They crossed with 1 Corps to Normandy in late June and then took part in the last phase of the Battle of Caen. They assisted in the capture of the Bourguebus Ridge and the advance on Falaise which helped to trap a huge number of German troops after their failure in the Mortain counter attack. Sapper Joseph Rimmer was killed in action during the advance to Falaise on the 14th August.
