Walter Rea was born in Bromsgrove in 1896 and was the son of Walter and Ann Elizabeth Rea. Walter Rea Senior was a housepainter and his wife and most of the children helped him in the business. The family lived in Stourbridge Street. The eldest son, Alfred was a bricklayer’s labourer. Walter Rea junior was the 7th of 10 children. Alfred was the eldest followed by Robert, Richard, Lucy, Charley Henry, Harry, Walter, Ashwell James, Frederick and Ruth.
The birth of Walter Rea is registered in the September Quarter 1896 under the Bromsgrove Registration District. The death of a Walter Rea aged 21 is registered in the December Quarter 1917 under the Thornbury Registration District. This death entry may relate to this casualty if the age given is correct as there is only the one birth registration for a Walter Rea between 1895 and 1897.
