Moses Pugh was born in Kingswinford in 1876, the son of John and Elizabeth (nee Abernethy) Pugh. On the 24th October 1905 he married Annie Harris in Brierley Hill. Moses was a career soldier, serving for more than 18 years. He enlisted in 1895, serving as Private 4450, Worcestershire Regiment in India (1911 Census) and Uganda. He rose to the rank of Colour Sergeant Major before being discharged as medically unfit for further military service on the 13th December 1913. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal as C.S.M. 9383, Worcestershire Regiment. He was also awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal as a recent retiree.
Moses died on the 11th April 1921 from Pulmonary Tuberculosis; he was buried in Throckmorton Parish Churchyard on the 15th April 1921.
