Further Information About PRITCHARD Bernard Wesley

Information in All Saints Church, Wilden states that Bernard was accidentally killed near Vermelles, France aged 19 and was buried in Vermelles British Cemetery.

Bernard Pritchard enlisted in April 1916 and after a time of training was sent to France with the Worcesters. He was about leaving the trenches for action, when he kicked a bomb, which was on the ground unexploded. The explosion killed him instantly, wounding some others nearby. He was a young man of much promise, having served in the Stourport Wesleyan Sunday School both as teacher and official, and in connection with the guild frequently gave literary papers and took a share in its many sided activities. Previous to enlisting he was employed in the clerical department of Messrs. Watson Bros., Kidderminster.

On September 8th, the 1st Worcesters were holding trenches north of the Hohenzollern Redoubt, near Loos.
