John Robert Pringle was the son of John Pringle, Bart., of Stitchell, Roxburghshire. He married Hester Ellen McNeill at the Chaplains Stations within the Archdeaconry of Madras, India by licence on 20th August 1844. John was a bachelor aged 28 and employed in the Madras Civil Service. Hester was aged 19, the eldest daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm McNeill of the Madras Light Cavalry.
John died at sea on his voyage home on 5th September 1847 aged 30 years. His son, John Pringle died at York on 21st October 1860 aged 13 years and 3 months. Father and son are commemorated on a stained glass window erected in 1862 in St Peter’s School Chapel near York.
