Further Information About POWELL William

William Powell enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment for a period of 3 years on 18th January 1905 at Worcester. On his attestation paper he gave his place of birth as St Nicholas, Worcester, his age as 18 years 2 months and his occupation as a Labourer. William was 5 feet 4½ inches tall with a fresh complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. During his time in the army he served at home, in Malta, Egypt and India. He was transferred to the Army Reserve on 7th March 1912. William married Annie Jane Symonds on 28th July 1913 at the Register Office Worcester and the couple had 2 children: William George born 29th July 1913 in Worcester and Irene Phyllis Elizabeth born 21st February 1915 in Leigh Sinton, 4 months after her father was killed in action. When war broke out William was immediately mobilised and posted overseas on 30th August 1914.

William Powell has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
