Albert George Pound was born in 1892 in Lindridge, Worcestershire, the eldest of four sons of George and Annie (nee Clarke) Pound. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Newlands, Abberley and on 16th June 1895 Albert was received into the church at the age of two years and nine months. He attended the local village school and is mentioned a number of times in the school log book.

The following report appears in the Kidderminster Shuttle of 1st April 1916:
Abberley
Much sympathy was felt in the neighbourhood for the bereaved family when the news was received on Friday of the death of Albert Pound, at the early age of twenty three years, who was serving as a trooper in the 2nd Worcestershire Yeomanry, which he joined.
