Further Information About PHILLIPS Leonard Harry Perrins
Leonard Phillips was the only son of Harry and Jessie Phillips. He joined the 2nd Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment on 14th September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He was shortly involved in the worst of the fighting in the Battle of the Transloy Ridges. The battalion moved forward from their reserve trenches on 4th November in the midst of a terrific storm with heavy rain. Over the next two days intense fighting ensued until they were ordered to withdraw. Of the four companies of the 2nd Battalion, very few were left and Lieutenant Phillips was among those who had fallen.
