Harold Pearce was the son of Reverend William Pearce, Rector of Kington. He attended St John’s School, Surrey from 1905 to 1910 then took employment with the Union Insurance Society, Cornhill. He enlisted with the University and Public Schools Men’s Force/Royal Fusiliers at Epsom before being commissioned in 3rd Battalion East Surrey Regiment on 7th May 1915.
